Harness cord: HETEX or carbon KORD?
Harness cord ties the pulley to the heddle. What HETEX 308–412 and carbon KORD 0.8 / 1.0 / 1.2 mm are, and what we need to supply the right cord.

Harness cord is one of the least talked-about parts of a jacquard harness. It gets less attention than heddles and springs, but it works on every pick. Here is what the cord does, the two series we supply (HETEX and carbon KORD), and what we need to know to send you the right one.
What does harness cord do?
In a jacquard harness, the cord makes the link between the pulley and the heddle. It runs down from the pulley under the jacquard, with the heddle tied at its end. When the jacquard lifts a hook, the movement passes through the cord to the heddle; the heddle rises and the warp end in its eye opens the shed.
So the cord works together with the heddle, the spring and the pulley. When one of them wears, the load shifts to the others. That is why, in our post on warp breaks, we suggest checking the cord together with the heddle and the spring.
HETEX series: from 308 to 412
HETEX is a series of jacquard harness cords. The cords in the series are known by codes from 308 to 412, and that code is what you order by, for example HETEX 410.
If you know the code of the cord in your harness, it is simple: give us the same code. If you don’t, see “If you don’t know the code” at the end of this post.
Carbon KORD: 0.8 · 1.0 · 1.2 mm
KORD is a carbon harness cord. We supply it in three gauges: 0.8 mm, 1.0 mm and 1.2 mm. You order it by gauge in millimetres, for example KORD 1.0.
The practical difference when ordering: HETEX goes by series code, KORD by gauge in millimetres. Which one suits which job depends on the jacquard and the existing harness. Talk to us before you switch the cord in a harness to another type or gauge.
Spools and colours
Both series come on spools. Coloured spools are available too; just tell us the colour you use in your harness.
Not every jacquard uses the same cord
Besides HETEX and KORD, we supply cords for specific jacquards and looms:
- Van de Wiele harness cord for carpet jacquards,
- Bonas harness cord for older Bonas jacquards,
- label pulley harness cord for Jakob Müller label looms.
Harness cord is one of the parts of a harness set. We explain why the contents of a set change from loom to loom in our post on harness sets.
What to send us
Three things are enough for us to send the right cord:
- Cord type and gauge: for example HETEX 410 or KORD 1.0.
- Colour.
- Quantity: in spools or kilograms.
If you don’t know the code
Send a clear photo of the old spool’s label or of the cord in your harness, together with your loom and jacquard details. If the photo is not enough, we can work out the right cord together during a harness survey at your mill.
You can see the products on our harness cords page. Message us on WhatsApp or fill in the harness request form on our site, and we can go through the cord, heddles and springs in one go.
